Did you mean:

Are you listening to yourself?

I’m not posting this to brag, I’m posting this because if I can do it, so can you.  This is intended for encouragement.

I didn’t go to school for photography- in fact- I picked it up out of necessity to help support my family and sell furniture online. I didn’t know what I was doing- but I did what I needed to do and shot in a way that felt right to me. Which ended up turning into my career.

I went from product photography (changed the way furniture was being shot) to wedding photography (nominated top in the world) to interior photography (featured in magazines globally with some of the top designers) to travel photography (won awards beating out National Geographic photographers) to fine-art photography (now in crate+barrel).

None of this was comfortable. None of this was the “safe” route. None of this did my peers think was the “right decision”.

My advice is to listen to yourself. Curate who you listen to. Take criticism from people better than you whom you respect, otherwise brush the other **bleep** off. Your gift WILL make room for you. It’s just finding that little space and letting it grow.

The truth is sometimes you don’t dip your toes in the water- you jump all the way in. Every transformation I did was scary. It didn’t make sense, it was totally uncomfortable and totally new BUT internally I knew it was the next step to my journey. I’m a creative and so many people told me to stick to one thing. Did I listen? No.

Are you listening to yourself? Are you letting that creative voice inside you manifest out? Are you letting what others say hold you back?

Again, I didn’t go to school for photography. I started with a T3i Canon rebel and grew. I’m self made. I learned by picking up the camera and constantly challenging myself.

If I can do it- so can you.

You don’t need school to start photography.

You don't need all the top of the top equipment to start.

You don’t have to be a “typical” creative to start.

You don’t need to know exactly how and what you’re doing.

You just start. What are you holding back on?

Hi,

Can you offer some advice on how you established, marketed, and grew your business? Thanks.

I would love to. What topic would you like me to go more in depth with? Ask a few questions!
