Wanting To Buy A Wide Angle Lens: Recommendations for EOS R6 Mark II

Cantrell
Rising Star

All,

I am wanting to buy a wide angle lens to use with my R6M2. I would like the find a lens that would be good in low light situations. I have looked at the RF14-35mm F4 L IS USM, EF16-35mm 1:4 IS USM, and the EF16-35mm F/2.8L III. Any recommendations regarding these lenses? Thank you in advance for your consideration.

If you can swing the RF 15-35 f2.8, it is worthy of your consideration. This image is low res.  🫣

Sorry I'm on my mobile currently and don't have other pictures I can share.  This is of the cathedral in Berlin.  However, this lens performs remarkably in low light.

Have a look here too. These were all shot with the 15-35.

What camera do you have? If an EOS R Series camera stick with an RF lens. In the long run it will be worth it compared to an EF lens that's on the end of support.

Deebatman316,

Thank you for the information. I have the R6M2 camera. I apologize for not putting that information in my original post.

If budget is a concern have you thought about the more budget friendly RF 16-28mm F/2.8 IS STM lens. Or do you need a lens that goes up to 30mm or 35mm. If NOT that is a great budget friendly lens.

Deebatman316,

Thank you for the recommendation. That is option to research.

If you do go for the RF 14-35mm F4L IS USM make sure you use lens correction in camera or in post. At the wide end of the lens it has some vignetting in the EVF/ LCD screen. RF lenses shoot wider than there stated focal length to account for lens correction.

debateman316,

Thank you regarding the comment regarding lens correction in the camera or post. That would not have occurred to me. Also, I appreciate the information on using RF lens with the EOS R cameras. Very helpful.

"...compared to an EF lens that's on the end of support."

Although, perhaps a concern, if the price is right and fits the budget, all EF lenses work as well today as they did before they went on the list. And most likely will for decades to come. Besides if the worst does happen there are private repair shops ready and willing to do service and/or repair. There is always trade offs and choices.

ebiggs1,

Thank you for your response to my question.
