Should I buy EOS R10 for 600 usd or opt in into used camera?

Hi, I am looking to buy my first camera, I decided to go mirrorless and I was looking to find a used Sony a6400, but today I caught my eye on Canon EOS R10 fully new from an official distributor on a discount with kit lens. I am thinking about getting this camera and, as everyone suggests, buying another better zoom lens for it. I want to do both photo and video, mostly photo. Is it a good camera to start with? In a bit older posts, people are recommending to go for Sony as there are more lenses and they will be cheaper, I am wondering how is the situation nowadays with this, especially taking into account price. I am leaning a bit towards EOS R10 as it is just a bit newer camera than a6400 and the price seems really great, so I am thinking even if I won't like that hobby I will be able to cash out with minimal losses.

Greetings,

If you compare the two cameras side by side the R10 outshines the a6400 almost everywhere.  The only thing they really share in common is the megapixel of their sensors.  The R10 is also 3 years newer.  Overall Sony's lenses are not significantly less expensive.  The only real edge the Sony has is that it has weather sealing, but it's fixed, lower resolution tilting screen doesn't hold a candle to the fully articulating screen on the R10 and it has much better resolution.  The R10 is a photographer's camera.  The layout of its controls are so much better.  Lens wise you have plenty of options.  Canon and Sigma have some great offerings.  If you're considering a kit lens I'd go with the RF-S 18-150 over the RF-S 18-45.  Make sure that you buy directly from Canon or from a Canon authorized dealer.  Also factor in the cost of an additional battery and a few memory cards.

I owned  the Sony back in 2019 when it was introduced.  It was definitely groundbreaking then and was a great bargain of a camera for the money.  It's amazing to me that it's held it's value as well as it has.

I moved to Canon's RP.  The R10 is similar to the RP, just with the smaller format APS-C sensor similar to the Sony. The controls and features of the Canon are much more sophisticated for maturing in photography.  If the R10 you are looking at is still available for that price as I'm writing this I'd be surprised as even with the possible upcoming announcement of the Mark II version that is a great price.  I'd probably be interested in one for myself for that price.

Just be sure that you get a valid and real warranty from the seller.  I am just guessing that you might be looking at a grey market product.  Some distributors sell both, so be sure you know what you're getting warranty-wise.

Considering two cameras that meet your requirements, go with the one with the newest technology.  You may want to look at the lenses you may want and compare them from each system, but, being your first camera, what lenses you think you want today will most likely be different after you have shot for a while.

I'm thinking that price point has to be a R100, not an R10 and perhaps a typo.
