R6ii vs R7 for bird photography

Hi everyone,

I am looking for an upgrade from my current setup: R50 with RF 200-800 6.3-9

I am currently facing several limitation such as buffer and the occasional AF picking up the wrong subjects. Hence, I think it is a suitable time for an upgrade.

Approaching this sub as I am conflicted between getting the R6ii or R7. I am drawn by the full frame capabilities of the R6 such as improved performance in low light and buffer capacity. However, the only drawback for the R6 is the effective megapixels (24.2MP).

The R7 on the other hand gives me the additional 1.6x crop factor, suitable for birding, has 32.5MP sensor, BUT it's an APS-C sensor.

For anyone who owns both and is into bird photography, kindly help me out!!

To the rest of the community, please let me know your experience you had with the R6/R7!

Thank you in advance!

I do not have both cameras, but I have the R6 MkII and the RF200-800 lens.  I was sold on the lens first and had to choose the camera, this was my first journey into the Canon world.  I did a lot of research and those two cameras were my finalists, the R6 MkII was at the top of my price range.  One thing I already knew before the research was that a full frame 24mp would have much larger pixels than an APS-C sensor with 32mp.  Bigger pixels mean better light gathering, which translates to better low light performance.  That and all of my other research made the R6 MarkII the clear winner, a perfect match for the RF200-800.  I shoot a lot of bird and wildlife pictures, usually in the morning and sometimes even before sunrise on bright mornings.  I have absolutely no regrets on the purchase, the best one I have ever made for photography gear.  The R6 MarkII also has a fabulous autofocus system with many options (plenty of youtube videos for ideas on how to set it up).  I live near the ocean and have found the combo is also excellent for surfing photos.  I'm not dismissing the R7, I just haven't had experience with it, but the R6 MarkII is right for me.
