Close up lens recommendations for eos 5d mark iii

Hiya! I recently bought a used eos 5 mark iii and was looking for a recommendation for a close up lens get for it. It came with a 75-300mm lens but I’m looking for something to do closer up shots

As for what I use it for, I’m looking into doing portraits and/or product photography. This is my first camera I own myself, though I took photography for 4 years in school and have much experience through that

Congratulations! I have the 5DMIII, its a great camera!

I would honestly suggest you look for a used EF 24-70 f2.8L - depending on your budget of course, however its a great option with RF lenses out, the EF lenses have dropped in price. Its a full frame so you could do a 35mm prime. When I was learning I preferred to with zoom lenses, then added in the nifty fifty to practice!

The EF 100mm macro would be an excellent option. If you need a little more working distance, the 180mm macro will almost double it.

In addition to what @kvbarkley said. Canon has made different 100mm macro lenses over the years. The 100mm L was the last version made and it’s a top level lens with IS. Canon also made a 50mm macro and life size converter to get 1:1 focusing. But it’s an old lens and has been discontinued though it can be found on the used market.

IMO Canon’s full frame EF 180mm F3.5L is the sharpest Canon Macro lens. It is very sharp wide-open. I love it! Good luck!

I agree but the Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM Lens has been discontinued for quite some time. It will be a used only proposition.

the author’s looking for a lens he can shoot close-up (or Macro) Of course it’s discontinued, but if he’s gonna go for it then Ebay’s your hope. that’s what i would do if i were in his place otherwise, i’ll look for another lens option.

I should point out that the 100L macro has the fancy IS that compensates for up and down and side to side movement as well as front to back movement! AFAIK, that is unique in the camera world.

"Of course it’s discontinued, ..."

The OP may not be aware of that fact.

"IMO Canon’s full frame EF 180mm F3.5L is the sharpest Canon Macro lens."

That statement can imply it is a readily available lens which it is not. Simply pointing out to the OP where he/she needs to go to buy one. Especially since it was discontinued 5 or 6 years ago.

"that is why that statement..."

well, I am not implying it is readily available, instead take a closer look and do a research about it. Eh?
