Camera recommendations for theatre photography

Hello-

I have been shooting with a dslr camera- Canon 6d mark ii. The mode dial came off (plastic broke some how) and I looked into getting it fixed but it looks like I might as well get a new one.

So, I am looking into upgrading or at least something comparable, but switching to mirrorless.

I am interested in something that would be good for shooting low light (highly saturated coloful lighting) theatre photography.  But I also do a fair amount of macro and general nature photography and portrait.  I have a several lenses that I would like to be able to continue using as well.

I am not very familiar with the mirrorless cameras, so I am looking for recommendations.   My budget is $1200-1500, but could maybe be talked up if it would be very worth it.

Thanks for any help!

The R6 MkII has been my go to when shooting low light. I can grab decent shots @ ISO 6400 and at 12800 they are still nice been need to be run through denoise. Topaz, DXO or PS clean them up nicely.

I looked at the Canon refurb site and none are available. The current list is $2K if you can swing it, it one shows up in refurb it's real close to your budget and still comes with a warranty.

For your stated budget, if you plan on sticking with full frame, about the only camera you could get is the EOS R8. A bit on sale now, but when not, that's right at the top of your budget. You could then pick up a Canon-branded EF to RF adapter to use your existing EF lenses.

If you don't wish to continue with full frame, there are less expensive bodies in the R-series line.

When the time comes, strongly recommend saving up for RF lenses.

Greetings,

Having owned the 6D Mark II for over 5 years, the R6 Mark II would be my choice.

Refurbished units go in and out of stock fairly quickly.  (Above stated budget)

Otherwise, go with Ricky's advice and grab the R8.  (below stated budget)
