Budget EF lens suggestions please?

Hi all

I have an old 6D with an EF 50 1:1.8 lens which is my first DSLR setup. I’d like to add a few more lenses to the kit in order to get more creative & also to take longer range shots. I shoot whatever catches my attention. A lot of landscape, sunset, built environment stuff but also quite a lot of low light shots at open mics, night time and so on. I’ve even shot a friend’s wedding at their request / insistence.

My issue is that I have extremely limited funds. Please could I have recommendations for good bang-for-buck lenses at the very low to, say, $250 price end of the scale?

My first question would be do you have any camera shops in your area.  Most camera shops take older gear in for trade, and they do inspect the gear to make sure it is in working order before they buy it, and resell it.  This is often the best place to find older EF lenses at budget prices.  My suggestion is if you do have local camera stores, go there first and see what they have in stock.

Greetings,

To add to Gary's reply, you can also visit KEH, MPB, and the used departments at B&H and Adorama for inspected, certified and warranted  gear.  These items would probably be a little more $$$, but you get warranty and right to return if something was not right.  Buying used can be great, but having a warranty and return option is generally worth a little extra cash.

Those are great suggestions, Rick!  B&H is my favorite of the three to buy used gear from, but they all are good.  They are also the most fair when it comes to trading in used gear.

This is probably hit or miss with camera shops, but the three local ones in my area give you 90 days with any used gear to return it if anything is wrong.  After reading your last sentence, it made me want to add to my original reply to verify this with any local camera shop the OP might shop at.
