Anyone Using a Sigma 24-35 F/2 ART on R cameras with adapter?

Good Morning,

Is anyone using this one at all with a proper Canon adapter? Thoughts, issues? I tried one on an EF camera a while back and it was a nice lens to me.

Thanks

Chris

Greetings,

I have owned and used a great deal of Sigma glass.  Both Contemporary and Art.  (I only use Canon glass now).  My only concern about this lens is that it's 10 years old.  Since it's a global vision product, its firmware can be updated with the USB dock.  I would do some research and see what firmware updates have been released for it.  The dock is inexpensive and worth having.

Looks like the last firmware update was 5 years ago.

Beyond that, Sigma has a compatibility guide where you can find out if a lens is compatible with a particular body.

Note this tool is best effort.  I would trust it about 90%.  Again, my biggest concern is that this is a 10-year-old lens.  A good one no doubt but one made for cameras in a different time.

The Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art Lens for Canon EF is one lens that I have not ever owned or even used. However, as a general rule it should work as well on the R series that it did on an EF series camera. You may not get and probably will not get all the features that the RF lenses have.

How much money is involved? Is it worth the cost to you?

Hi Rick,

I value your opinion, and didn't consider all of that, I was just thinking how I liked that lens back then. Honestly looking for a decent mid zoom lens, faster, for indoor use/lower light conditions. Was checking out the EF 24-70 f/2.8L II USM to use with an adapter. That fits the max budget and the need. I don't really have any lenses in my collection, that are faster and cover the range. Will be going on a full frame camera now (R6 M2), not the R7.

I think the Canon lenses of that vintage still hold up well with the modern, full size bodies, adapted of course?

Good points too. I'm gonna pass on the Sigma. I'll figure out my options. Downsizing my collection and probably going to get more RF lenses. I like how everything works as of today..

It sounds like you and I are quite similar. I have a large number of old obsolete gear too. Upon occasion I still use my F1n but I haven't used the other old stuff for years, no decades. I'm guessing I still have 30 (maybe more!) EF lenses.  Ain't it sad when you don't even know an accurate count? 🙄

Yesssss. I was digging through the older stuff and was like…I still have that? Some of those EF lenses are gold. But some of the newer RF lenses are pretty darn nice too. I still shoot film at holidays and other events because it still works for me. But enjoying what the new tech does too. I’m gonna embrace this new tech more and replace stuff I will probably never really use again. Its an addiction and a wonderful hobby.

Hello,
Recently got a sigma 24-35 f2 for my Canon R6mkII. I got a very good deal for it, so it was a no-brainer. Since there is not a lot of feedbak about this lens and R cameras heres my take at the experience.
I am using it with the canon ef-rf adapter and everything works well. The only thing I recomend is updating the firmaware of the lens. My lens had the original firmaware and things like the IBIS and the lens profile corrections did not work properly. After updating to the latest firmaware, using the sigma dock, everything works.
The lens is hevy, specialy with the adapater, but for the price, you are getting a lot of personality and great optical perfomance.
AF is fast and accurate, but of course, lacking behind the newer RF glass.

Thanks,

Diogo.
