24-105 f/4L - RF worth it over EF v2?

Thinking of picking up a 24-105 f/4 as the one zoom in my kit. The RF version worth the premium over saving on an EF II? I already have a control ring adapter for my R6mk2, and the size concern isn’t huge for me. Thanks!

For RF Mount cameras stick with RF Mount lenses. Unless an equivalent RF Mount version isn’t available. Also most EF lenses are NOT COMPATIBLE with all features most EOS R series cameras have to offer.

I have the 24-105 f4 L with my R5 (kit lens) and this is a very solid lens for the R series cameras.

I would agree with the groups feedback. If you own EF lenses keep using them but if you are going to invest in new glass for an R body you should purchase RF glass. Long term it's a smart move if for no other reason then you will have support if challenges arise with the a lens.

A lot of the EF lenses are moving to end of service life. Parts and service will become an issue. And as deebatman316 noted there are compatibility issue.

I've posted this before but it's worth repeating.

RF lenses have a 12-pin connection to the camera, while EF lenses have 8 pins. This allows RF lenses to communicate with the camera faster and more efficiently. While using an EF lens on an EOS R system camera with an adapter you may experience some limitations to continuous shooting and focus speed as the EF uses older communication protocols and the connection for data communication is limited to the 8 pins.

The RF24-105 f4 L is a good lens and it will start to build some longevity into your overall R system where the EF is pretty much just filling a gap and will eventually need to be replaced.

Best advice given.  Buy RF for mirrorless.  👍
