What is the best Canon wide angle lens to shoot pictures of large groups of children and/or adults?

Did you not get the kit lens 18-55mm or so, with the T1i? If you did, it will do fine.

I did and that is the one I have been using -- but wanted something a little closer!

If you did get the 18-55mm with the camera, the EF 16-35 f/4 will offer you little. If you didn't go for it.

It has been suggested that I might like the 10-18 that Canon has on sale right now -- I may look into getting that one --
