Whick microphone for video on a 5d MKIII

I am entering the world of video with my 5d MKIII. The intermal microphone is adequate, but I beieve an external one would be better.  I am looking for a genaral purpose one, that is relatively inexpensive.  Any suggestions?

Check the Rode VideoMic series of microphones. These are very popular. They mount to the camera hot-shoe (the hot-shoe is only used to hold the mic to the camera... they don't use any of the electronic pins on the hot-shoe).

There are a few variations on the VideoMic... you can get audio samples of how they each record.
