WARNING! Fake Canon website

amfoto1
Authority

BEWARE!

Apparently there are ads running on Facebook offering various, current Canon cameras for 95% off ..., $292 for a 5D Mark IV with 24-105L, etc.

Linked to the ads IS a website that closely emulates Canon's own, too. (I'm not going to post the URL here... wouldn't want anyone to follow the link, since I got some pop-ups while there that were sleezy enough that I'm now running a virus scan on my computer. I couldn't find any place to alert Canon about scams, so sent an email to CPS, including the website link.)

According to Whois.com, the website is based in China and went live just over a week ago.

The prices are ABSURD and I have no doubt it's a scam... Very possibly are phishing for identity theft.

I'm quite surprised that Facebook is running the ads (haven't seen the ads myself because I'm not very active on Facebook,.. I got the info and link to the website from another forum where at least one person appears to have "placed an order"...  $82 for a T7i with kit lens.)

This fake website is also advertising on Ebay in Australia.

Similar ridiculously low pricing as seen by amfoto1.

The ads appear for 2-3 days and then disappear.

Haven't seen them for a couple of weeks, but now doubt they will be back again.
