I would like to ask, is it normal when tethering on canon R8 to macbook pro with usb-c, the connection is only for data transfer (not include charging the battery) ?
Because when shooting tethered on my old camera (fujifilm xt-2) the battery was also charged.
Thank you.

Greetings,
The camera will only change when USB-C is connected, and the camera is off.

I use tethering to a laptop al the time but I have never heard of any camera that got powered let alone got charged while doing so. That is news to me. I don't know since I don't have an R8 but I bet there is an AC adapter for it so that would power it while tethering. Personally, I just keep two batteries on hand when I use tethering. My shoots don't last long enough to run a battery down.

The fujifilm xt-2 does charge the battery at the same time. I never changed battery and the battery remained full when using that camera while tethering even in a 8 hours shoot.
