Creating a small studio in my garage albeit that I am new to flash photography but would like to hear opinions out there for lighting options. I have looked at Adorama TV and watched many of the very good videos they have on studio lighting but would like to hear from you guys in the field as well.
I will be using my new Canon 5d mark 3 and my new lenses 24/105 4.0 and the 70/200 2.8 11
There is no way to say that is a good outfit or not. You really need to know what you are shooting. Than choose your equipment and set up. Every shot has simular things but not exact things usually.

After moving to softboxes I only use my umbrellas for architectural work - when throwing light everywhere is exactly what I'm trying to achieve. With all the generic softboxes available, at not much more than the cost of an umbrella, I recommend soft boxes.

The best part about Paul Buff lighting equipment is you can buy it and use it and then return it if you don't like it. I set up my studio with AB's and love it. I tried different modifiers until I got a setup that works for me. I ended up returning a bunch of stuff with no drama and kept the pieces that I wanted. They're a great company with great policies and prices.
