Shutter fails on my T3i

My shutter self trips sometimes and not others it will fire off one or multiple exposures and stop by itself.  I hav e tried 

resetting peramiters and removing the battery. It occasionally will not trip the shutter with the remote shutter release...?

Can you offer any suggestions??

I've had the first problem with at least one of my cameras over the years & it was due to accidently having it in self timer mode and having hit the shutter button during handling. It doesn't fire until the timer runs down to Zero.
