I updated my canon 5d mark 3 from a 1.2.3 to a 1.3.5. But now it's taking a long time to load. Is it possible to update from a 1.2.3 to a 1.3.5?

I’m not at home to check my firmware version for my 5D III to see which version I’m running.
However... there are two ways to update firmware.
One method transfers the firmware via USB.
The other method (and this is the method I use) is that you copy the firmware file (the “xxxxx.FIR” file) to the top level directory of the memory card and then run the update on the camera (via the menu) and there is no USB connection to the computer.
Fearing that any cable problems could brick the camera... I only ever use the 2nd method.
It does take several minutes (I’ve never timed it... but it’s probably a 5 minute process). During the update, Canon tells you to not to do anything with the camera (don’t attempt to press any buttons ... just let it do it’s thing.)
Which method are you using?
How long have you waited?
