Rebel t2 LCD

I just got a Rebel t2 film camera. I loaded a film roll today but after I turn the camera off, the lcd remains on showing the number of shots left. Is there a way to turn it off? Wouldn't it kill the battery eventually?

You might have to download a manual, but LCD's draw very little power, after all that is why they use LCD's for watches.
