Rebel T3i Flash button not working (flash works fine)

I've got a T3i that has been sitting for a few years. I started messing with it recently and have discovered that the pop up flash button doesn't work in any mode. I can half press the shutter button and the flash pops up and works just fine.

Any thoughts as to what the issue might be? Its not a deal breaker, it's just a bit annoying.

This issue has been resolved. If anyone else comes across this issue then the way I fixed it was by upgrading the firmware.

I doubt the FW helped except for the fact it reset the T3i back to factory default.  If, when, it happens again just do a factory reset.
