R6 + Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD: Sensor IS and lens IS are not able to collaborate.

I have a big problem with my "Canon R6 + Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD". When IS is activated, corners of my photos are blurred. Obviously, lens and sensor are not able to collaborate. Do you have similar expierence, e. g. with another (older) Tamron VC lenses? Do you know about any solution - eg. using only one IS system?Bottom right corner, IS on, 1/320s, F8, 28mmBottom right corner, IS on, 1/320s, F8, 28mmBottom right corner, IS on, 1/320s, F8, 28mmBottom right corner, IS on, 1/320s, F8, 28mm

Your lens is NOT compatible with your camera. Only Canon can guarantee compatibility with its gear. NOT 3rd Party gear it's up to the 3rd Party manufacturer for compatability. Check with Tamron if there is a firmware update available.

I own that same lens and camera. I also have noticed that VC is not working properly. So far I have not found any workaround and to be honest I do not think that either company will try to fix this issue.

As deebatman316 suggested with the firmware update the lens will perform significantly better.

The Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD lens is compatible with the Canon EOS R6 camera with updated firmware.

Older Tamron lenses may require a firmware update to be fully compatible with the Canon EOS R system.
The Tamron TAP-in console can be used to update the firmware for most lens models.

To update the firmware using the Tamron TAP-in console:

Screw the lens onto the console

  • Connect the console to a computer using a USB cable
  •  Start the "TAP-in Utility" software
  • Follow the update instructions
  • If a TAP-in console is not available, contact Tamron Service

With a google search you can find the Tap Console for anywhere between $29 (used) to $56 (new). The expense for the console can only be justified by how much value the lens has to you.

That lens is not compatible with the Tamron TAP-in console and the lens is using the latest firmware. The lens is working but it has some issues. That's all. Sometimes the VC act weird and sometimes the camera becomes unresponsive and the only way to get it back is removing and inserting the battery. I find that if you turn off the VC before inserting the lens and then turning it on makes it work better.

I'm not looking for a solution here, I'm just reporting some observations I have found when it's used with an R6 Mk I.

Regarding Sharpness, If you get VC working turning it off and on, pictures in my end are sharper using VC. Even in the corners.

I recently shot an event using this lens and camera combination and you can see the pictures here.

Hey Frank, not doubting you but I reached out to support at Tamron Americas and they conveyed that the lens needs the firmware updated for MILC and to use the Tap Console, as also noted they stated if it didn't work or is not available to contact Tamron Service.

I simply relayed the feedback I got from them.....

I own the Tap Console and this lens is not compatible. And yes, if you need to update the firmware you need to send the lens to them. I bought the lens new and recently so it came with the latest firmware. Thanks Marc.

OK this was what they conveyed during my inquiry.

Yes, you can use the Tamron TAP-in Console to update the firmware on the Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD lens, but you must use Tamron Service to do so. The TAP-in Console can also be used to configure settings for specific shooting situations
