Have a new canon Eos 6 mark 2. Always seems to be in record mode. Never takes a single photo. It is switched to photos.

If you’ve double-checked that it’s not in movie mode, try resetting the camera. What lens are you using?
Also, try putting the camera in Auto mode and taking a photo? Anything?

It is a 24-105 f4l is usm. Tried it on auto, manual. Same result. It starts recording.

Try switching to movie mode, then back again. Maybe something is stuck with that switch?
If you cannot get things to work, then do contact Canon to see about having it repaired.

"... try resetting the camera"
Remember there are two places when you do the reset make sure you have done both.

Hi and welcome:
Just to confirm, that this switch, #17, is not set to movie mode?
If it is set to still camera mode and you have done a system reset, then it is possible that the switch is stuck inside to movie mode. Since your camera should be under warranty, I would suggest contacting cannon 1-800-OK-Canon to discuss with a technician and log a job to have it repaired.
