Hi Everyone,
I'm having an issue with my new R5 while filming video and using the built in mic. There are loud pops that are recorded in the video clips, the kind of pops you hear as if you plugged in a microphone while recording (just individual ones and no static, see videos at the bottom).
They appear to be random, and there maybe 2 to 4 on a new 10 second clip. Sometimes there are none, other times one. The pops can happen when the camera is stationary and not being touched, I had placed it on my desk and hit record and a 2 seconds in there was a pop. But most often they happend when holding the camera (buts thats also been the majority of my testing so far).
Initially I thought the microphone sensetivity was too high so I turned off Auto and set Manual at 75%, with Windcut and Attenuation set on, but the problem persisted. It also is happens when the sensetivity is lowered down further to 50%. I still need to test at a sensetivity of 25%.
I've also tried different lenses, the pops happen across the board with all lens I've tired. The below clips are a mix of RF35mm, RF24-105mm, and Tamron 70-300 SP.
I've not yet tried an external mic, so I'll be testing that also to see if its just the internal mic with the problem.
In the meantime, can any one else check if their R5 built-in microphone produces any loud pops in the video clips?

I've had the same problem. Support suggested turning off wifi.

I tried turning off the WiFi, even turned on the Airplane Mode. No help.

By the way, what resolution/frame rate is everyone using when this happens? I am doing 4k60fps.

I was doing 4k 30 fps. I usually would get one pop max, near the beginning of the video. Didn't try turning off wifi until today, we'll see if that does anything.

I use 1080p 60fps. I'll try my new copy tonight.

If the new unit has firmware 1.2, then maybe stay with that. What firmware were you both using when the pops happened? I updated to 1.3.1 right when I got the camera, so if it's related to that, I'm sticking with 1.2 if I do the exchange.

My current one was 1.1.1, and I updated it to 1.3.1. No difference, lol.

I wasn't able to find a work around for the issue. It happened at all resolution settings and with various lenses. I don't beleive it happened when using an external microphone like a rode mic. Anyways I returned the camera to Amazon and waited a few months for my replacement (there were supply issues during Q4 2020). The new camera has been working fine without issue, no pops recorded when using the built in mic. I'd recommend returning it for an exchange.
