Question about mirrorless

Not owning a mirrorless myself, I just had a question.

If you don't get an audible snap when you press the shutter, how do you know that you've actually taken a photograph?

Hey Steve,

Older mirrorless bodies like the EOS R, R5 and R6 don't have an artificial shutter sound when shooting with electronic / silent shutter.  Instead you see white border around the frame when an image is captured.  Some later models (example) the R50, R10 and R5 mk II have a simulated sound that can be enabled in the camera menus.

With an R100, it does make sound similar to a shutter firing on a film SLR.

In One Shot AF and Single Shot Drive Mode, the EVF will momentarily blink off and back on.  It simulates what you see in a DSLR OVF.

In Servo AF and Continuous Drive mode, you will see the initial blink on the first shot.  Subsequent shots will flash  the color of the AF point with the AF lock.

But, it gets more complicated than that when you enable Subject Detection and Eye Tracking.  Instead of AF point squares of one size.  You will see two dynamically resizing rectangles on both the subject, and a smaller one on the eye.  I suggest watching Jared Polin camera review videos on YouTube.  He records what the EVF looks like.
