The 7D Mark ii has some great features like the ability to finetune the shutter speed logic in the Av programm. This way you can shorten it to two or three times of the calculated basic value.
Why don't we get this feature in the 5D Mark III via firmware upgrade? After the amount of money spent some feature upgrades possible via firmware should be delivered.

The 'firmware' will probably come with the 5D Mk IV. Don't look for it on a Mk III.
You bought the camera for what it is.

Both the 7D and the 5D3 have had fairly radical firmware upgrades during their lifetimes. Conceivably we couod see another if, say, they were to fall behind schedule with the 5D4 and wanted to stall a bit.
What are people expecting from the 5D4? Not higher resolution, since that itch has already been scratched. Better low-light performance? Dual-pixel autofocus? An IR AF assist beam where the built-in flash isn't? GPS (with an actual "off" switch, one would hope)? Interchangeable focussing screens (including one with a split-image rangefinder, like a Katz Eye)?

OK, we'll see. Remember the old saying, hold out two hands and wish for the firmware in one and,......well you know the rest.

And that should no longer be the standard in this times of constant updates in every part of the digital world. Lately Nikon has announced to deliver new features via firmware from time to time. So yes, others are already doing it.

Canon also does some feature enhancements. All camera makers do. But new firmware's main goal is a bug swatter. Maybe to clarify a menu or make the interface easier and more friendly. They add new lenses or accessories not a here's more featuers offer.
Like I say, let's see!
