Multiple verticle lines in display - EOS 5D Mark III

When I turn my camera on I'm seeing multiple verticle lines (different colors) on the display. I see the same lines when trying to view the images. I'm attaching a screenshotIMG_7827.jpeg

No you confirmed that your pictures are out of focus without a lens.
the fact that it is clear on the tv shows that you have a bad lcd.

Defective driver or more probably the LCD. You can plug a TV or monitor into the HDMI to see if it is the driver.

Thanks, I'll have to find one of the small HDMI cables, not sure I have one of those

Hi,

I was able to grab a cable and plugged the camera into my TV. I can see the photos on it very clearly, no lines. I don't have the lens with me, and had tried to take a photo without a lens, it resulted in a white photo - would that confirm that the LCD is the issue vs the driver?

Appreciate the help.

If your body isn't registered on the Canon site it would be good to do so and give Canon Support a call, they are really good people to work with and can assist you with repair.

Thanks Marc. The camera was purchased used and belongs to a non-profit I volunteer with. I may take it to a local camera repair shop to see what their thoughts are and get an estimate for repair. I'm helping diagnose the issue.

I'm pretty comfortable with electronics (used to build my own PCs) so I may attempt the repair myself - any thoughts on that?

Having zero knowledge in small camera repair I really have no opinion. I did look and found the LCD for that camera is for sale starting at $169.

Good luck if you give it a go, come back and let us know if you pulled it off. I for one would be impressed!
