Hi Rachel,
I saw your post on another forum, with image samples.
To me that looks like a faulty camera.
At most I'd reinstall (or update) the firmware.... that's something you can do yourself and costs nothing... just download the firmware from the Canon USA website and intall it following the instructions carefully.
If that doesn't help, I'd ask about exchanging the camera, if possible. Or send it to Canon Service Dept. to be checked.
