I have the 5DM4 and love its tank-like build. Is the R5 as rugged? I am thinking of getting one. I can drive nails into oak beams with my 5DM4 it is so tough. How does the R5 compare in build quality https://speedtest.vet/ ? Anyone know?

Greetings,
Yes the R5 is of equal ruggedness, stature and water resistance as the 5DIV.

Yes. Although it doesn't feel like it when holding them. I currently own both the R5 and 5d IV. Both cameras are absolute workhorses. They've both been dropped, slung, submerged in salt water(really) and have taken it all. I've used the R5 in weather conditions that would make your skin crawl. Never had a single issue.

Whilst attempting to use my tripod for the first time I just had my R5ii drop off my tripod onto carpeted floor… the lens hood broke and popped off. Fortunately the camera was turned off and the rf24-105mm lens was locked… no damage at all to the camera or lens… whew!!
my fault for not checking the mount.. - the stop screws were stopping the mounting plate from sitting properly into the tripod mount.. took out these screws and everything locked in tight… note to self…. Attach short safety strap between camera and tripod…

I also have both the 5D IV and the R5 (classic and mark II). All have a magnesium alloy chassis and weather sealing, but the R5 series have some body components made of polycarbonate with glass fiber. The R5 series will feel lighter due to the latter and the fact that they lack some of the components you find in a DSLR, like the mirror and focusing sensor in the floor of the DSLR. All of this makes them thinner and lighter than the 5D IV. But make no mistake, the R5 series are every bit as robust as the 5D IV.
