check to see if you have any bent pins in the card dock.

A little more information on exactly what is happening would help but if it's going in most of the way but not the last 1/4 inch or so a bent pin would sound like a correct diagnosis. A good light & a little patience with a jewelers screwdriver might set it back to it's normal position.

First, the XTi uses SD cards. No "bent pins" there.

You may be correct about the SPAM, and because I didn't know what type of card the XTi uses I looked it up before posting a reply. You should have too.

xTi uses CF cards.
Maybe the OP is putting them in facing the wrong way.
