Okay this might be a stupid question maybe and I’m just having a brain fart or something but how do you focus on your subject while using off camera flash that has no modelling light? It’s not that the ambience is completely dark. With an optical viewfinder on the DSLR’s no matter what the exposure was set for, you could see through the viewfinder and focus. But with an electronic viewfinder in mirrorless cameras and my background exposure underexposed and while using flash for the subject, how do you focus?

Go into the menu system and turn off exposure simulation. The viewfinder or rear LCD screen wil be displayed at full brightness, and you will be able to see everything clearly.
