How do you get the Canon Rebel XTI to switch from the viewfinder to the LCD screen?

I have had my Canon for quite some time and have not been able to take pictures by looking at the LCD screen, I have always had to use the viewfinder.  Is that normal?  I have gone through the manual 100's of times and havent been able to figure it out.  Can anyone help me?

Sorry, the 400D doesn't have live view.  That feature was introduced to the Rebel lineup at the next generation - 450D.
