I just downloaded the latest firmware and now my camera won’t even turn on. Battery is a canon battery fully charged…tried a few times. Tried taking out my SD cards. Still no power and it is blank. Please help!

Greetings ,

Please provide the steps you took specifically.  Preparation,  the version of firmware, what you did, etc.  This might help us understand what happened.

I used the canon app to download the new firmware. I honestly don’t remember what version it was. It was a pop up that prompted me to download it. It was 2 days ago.

Try taking your card(s) out of the camera, and make sure no other accessories are attached (no external flash, mic, nothing). Put the body cap on the camera. Make sure you're using the battery the camera came with, or another Genuine Canon battery (to make sure everything is working like it should, it can't be a third-party battery). Ensure the battery compartment and memory card doors are fully closed, and then see if the camera boots up. If not, you'll either want to contact support at 800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666) sometime next week or go ahead and send it in for service at https://canon.us/account

Not something I want to hear. I knew I shouldn’t have updated it. I heard there were issues. Winter sports season just ramped up and I have a senior so now I can’t use my camera that’s less than a year old.

There haven't been any issues that I've heard of with any of the firmware updates for the R6 Mk ll.  Mine have all went flawlessly.  The only issues I've heard from others is when they didn't follow all of the steps correctly.  It's always a good idea to update the firmware - I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with it.

Can you describe what happened on the screen as you were attempting the update?  Asking for all of the steps and prompts you were able to do - it might help.  I didn't see it mentioned above, but I've always heard to set the camera mode in "P" and make sure the lens is off as well.

If we can't help here today, call the Canon number that Stephen provided.  Those guys are very helpful, and can often figure things out without you sending the camera in.  You might spend an hour on the phone with them (make sure you set aside time), but an hour on the phone is much faster than sending the camera in.

Digital: Canon: R6 Mk ll, R8, RP, 60D, various lenses

I heard there were issues through a canon group I follow. This was the 2nd firmware update I did on the camera. Yes, updating the firmware is important that’s why I did it, but I waited because I heard there were issues and was hoping maybe the issues were fixed and had a soccer game I wanted to use my camera for.

as for the steps, I initially had a connecting error from my phone to my camera, so reconnected and set both my phone and camera next to each other and followed the prompts. I clicked ok when it asked to continue on, I got the % bar when it was downloading and it showed that it 100% downloaded and complete. I think the least was I clicked ok because it was complete, shut my camera off, removed the battery to charge it for the next day and that was it. I guess I never heard to put it in P or remove the lens so that is good to know. Thank you!

I plan to call them on Monday so yes, I appreciate the # thank you Stephan! I hope they can help over the phone. I do hear a shift when I insert the battery and have it on so I know the battery has power.

Thanks!

Even if you do have to send it in, your camera should be back in your hands within about a week of our team receiving it. If you're a CPS member, it's even faster!

That’s at least a little good news. Thank you!
