My son bought a Canon t7 that he has given to me. I'm trying to record 30-45 minutes videos on it. However, it shuts off after 12 minutes of recording. The answer is YES to the following:
Is the auto-shut off actually off?
Do you have a full size SD card?
Have you changed the resolution?
Is the battery charged?
Have you formatted the hard drive?
I have done all of the above and it still shuts off. I have a 32gb SDHC Class 10 sd card.
Do I really have to stop in the middle of recording and hit record all over again?
Thanks

How big are the files you. are creating? I think there is a 4GB limit.

I'll add the following. Video recording is limited to 29:59 on this body regardless of the size of the media, resolution or frame rate. It does have a 4 GB file size limit as kvbarkley mentioned

BostonNY301,
Your camera is designed to stop at 30 minutes, or a 4gb file size limit, whichever comes first. Shooting at a full 1080pHD, you hit that 4gb limit at 12 minutes.

I just want to get a clear understanding. So once it gets to 4gb, I can no longer record or do I just have to restart recording? Thanks for all of the responses as well.

BostonNY301,
As my esteemed colleagues have indicated, you would have to start a new recording, but that's not a bad thing, in and of itself. Think of the attention span of your audience. It's hard to concentrate on one thing for 12 minutes at a time. The brain needs a little break in order to hold their attention.

It means a 4 GB file size limit. So you have to start a new recording every 4 GB.
You'd need video editing software to connect the files to get a continuous video larger than 4 GB.
