I have a EOS T5 that I am using for macrophotography. I use a Wemacro focusing rail and the Canon utility program and am shooting a series of images for focus stacking.
When shooting my camera randomly fails to fire. This can be one missed frame or several (5 to 6 in a row). My cables seem to be OK and I have changed settings to allow time for image download, but nothing seems to resolve the issue. Others have had this problem, but I have not yet seen a solution.
Any suggestions?

Hello! openskycc login
Your EOS T5 misfires during focus stacking are likely due to timing and communication issues between the camera, rail, and EOS Utility. The most reliable fix is to save images directly to the SD card instead of auto‑downloading, add longer delays between shots, use a fast card, and trigger the shutter through the Wemacro rail rather than USB. Also ensure stable power with a full battery or AC adapter. This setup usually prevents missed frames.

Thanks, I will try the SD card. I do have a power supply and use Wemacro for triggering.

it sounds to me that your interval between shots could be too short, too. You must allow for the time it takes to capture and save the image. Noise reduction settings can significantly increase the amount of time to save an image.

What role does the Canon Utility play?
I used the Wemacro rail with several rebels, but always used the program that came with the rail to set my parameters and store to the card. I eventually moved to Helicon and although it would control the rail, I got the same results without it.
Just curious.

I have occasionally (accidentally) set the program to 1 second between shots and it ran beautifully with about the same number of missed shots. So far I cannot see any difference between long and short delays between images.

OK, HOW? I searched for a way to save to the card instead of a DL, but don't seem to see any setting to avoid the DL.

What exactly does that mean? How long is long? How short is short?
In order to best advise you with specific solutions, we will need more detailed information about how you are using the camera.
You have stated that you are using a 30 sec long exposure with a 31 second interval.
if you are experiencing issues with this Wemacro app , then you should consult with them.

What happens when you set the interval for 70 seconds?

I have only set it as far as 6 to 8 seconds with no clear improvement. I have never had trouble with astronomical imaging which is up to 10 minutes of exposure (but not with wemacro). This does seem to be some sort of timing issue, but the solution is not yet obvious.
I am not using any noise reduction or image correction.
Again, when I have accidentally used 1 second delays I get the same issue or an improvement with no apparent down-load issues..
