I have a EOS Rebel T7 camera. Setting is Auto, AF setting on the side, trying to take a wildlife picture not action.
when I turn the camera on to take a picture I get a message in the viewfinder “err” or I get communication error on the screen. I have take out battery, cleaned contacts nothing works. Suggestions? Camera is only about 4 months old

If you get errors as soon as you turn it on, remove the memory card.  Do not have any cables or anything else connected to the camera.  Switch the top dial to the Green[A+] mode and turn it on.

Where did you buy your 16GB memory card.  What brand and model is it?  I recommend SanDisk or Lexar brands.  Do not buy memory cards on Amazon or eBay.

Only buy memory cards from a factory authorized Canon dealer like B&H.  Only buy the full size memory cards.  You must format them inside the camera prior to first use.
