Did you mean:

EOS Rebel T6 - Formatting SD Card

Sebastienco

This may be a stupid question; however, I can't seem to format my SD card. I've tried both a 32GB SD card and a 128GB card and the message for both are "Can not Format, Change Card". Both of the SD cards were purchased recently at my local Walmart.

Do you have the EOS R6 Mark II or the EOS Rebel T6. These are NOT the same camera. The EOS Rebel T6 is a DSLR and the EOS R6 Mark II is a Mirrorless camera. These cameras were released in different years and the EOS Rebel T6 has been discontinued for a few years now. So the camera cannot be brand new.

EOS Rebel T6, it was given as a gift. I'm not sure of the time it was bought.

Are you using Full Sized SD Cards or Micro SD Cards in an adapter. Avoid using Micro SD Cards in an adapter. Where did you purchase these SD Cards  from? That particular camera lineup is known for not working with SD Cards larger than 32GB. Even though the manual states it’s “compatible” it’s not. You’ll get error messages or the camera will hang and lock up.

I am using full-sized SD cards I got from Walmart. I have tried a 32GB full-sized SD card

What brand is this SD Cards? Did you buy it from in the store or online? Have you tried formatting on the computer first to see if the camera can see it.

Sebastienco,

Are you sure that the write-protect switch on the side of the cards is slid to the up position?

I only use 16GB or 32GB as they will hold a trainload of photos. Not necessary for any bigger. What brand from Wally World? 95% of mine are SanDisk, full size disks.

The only dumb question is the one not asked- Dad.
