EOS Rebel T3i Black Screen, but camera still shoots - Help!

I have a Canon Rebel T3i and one day it was working fine, but in the very next day BAM the lcd just stoped working and now just show me a black screen.

I searched all the internet trying some way to fix my screen, but none of them worked. Below some information about what I found on the internet and have tried.

> My LCD it's working fine, the light inside LCD turn on, but just don't show any image, even the menu, info and other stuff. Just a awful black screen. And if I press the Disp. button I can see the screen turn off because the LCD light turn off. And, even more strange, if I try to upgrade the firmware, the screen works again for a few seconds when show up the Loading screen (moments before appears the list of files to upgrade the firmware, but I can't see the list, I just can see the Loading screen)

> Verify the "display off sensor". My Rebel T3i just don't have this kind of sensor, I know how this sensor's looks like ( http://www.manualslib.com/manual/454362/Canon-Eos-Rebel-Sl1-18-55mm-Is-Stm-Kit.html?page=15#manual ) and I can affirm that my camera doesn't have this thing. (Anyway I have removed the rubber and plastic outer viewfinder fitting from the camera and cleaned the area around the viewfinder and doesn't worked)

> Upgrade Firmware. I read about fix this problem upgrading the firmware, even without menu image I got it. But still not working. After upgrading the firmware I confirmed the firmware version using EOS Utility in my computer.

> My camera still working perfectly, I mean almost perfectly. I can shoot normaly, and I can do all the others things using the EOS Utility.

> I bought a new original lcd, but shows up the same problems.

> I thought some kind of lcd data cable was broken, but as I said, when I try to upgrade the firmware I can see the loading screen perfectly.

So, I'm desesperated here. Do not know what to try now. Please help me.

Did you even try?  What did they say?  If your camera is broken, none of these "shots in the dark", suggestions is going to work.  You need Canon Support.

Hello,

I got Canon 6D with black screen. I ordered new lcd but no luck. I try to update firmware and screeen work fine. After that same black screen.

Remove back and did cleaning again of all connection but same problem, black screen.

Bought Mini HDMI cable and insert it and what I see, Screen back on and work like charm.

So after all my effort to remove LCD and cleaning, there is very simple solution for black screen try HDMI cable and see what will happened.

Mine work and like to share with community so some one resolve problem too.

Many thanks to "um40"

The HDMI-mini cable did it.

The  LCD screen flipped back from black to live.

This 19 Euros solution will keep my astro projects going on with my Canon EOS 1100D.

Thanks UM40 !

I just tried to use my camera and the same thing happened to me, so I looked on here and didn't find the most useful answers. I noticed that my camera was left on after I switched my images over to my computer the other day. So I resulted back to what I would do to the tv if it didn't work. All I had to do to get my computer to work was turn it all the way off and wait ten seconds after the sensor cleaning screen went away and then I turned it back on and everything worked and my screen showed everything again! Hope this helped you!

I have the same issue.

I tried many suggestions herein but it didn't work.

What I did hopefully it works for you is I take off the lens, then shoot it several times to see what appeared in the display but there was a shadow square background of the mirror.

I cautiously push upward the mirror inside the camera then shoot and did it for 3 times. Then I put back the lens and PTL the camera is now working.

I hope this would work in your camera. Blessings.

Hi Casio,

Long shot, but hoping you can still see this. Did you ever fix your camera issue? I have exactly the same problem only that my screen turn on, from time to time. Unclear what makes it to turn on though. LMK if you still remember what fixed it.
Many thanks,

Cathy
