my auto focus feature no longer works on either camera, is this a function of the camera body which is the only part with power, or a problem with the lens.  Also can or how can it be corrected? any help appreciated. thanxz bob

I guess the first question would be is have you tried a different lens?  Asking because if it's just one lens, your problem lies with it.  The other question is, did this happen at the same time on both bodies?

thanxz justadude for your response.  here is the situation, i had the EOS3 for years and the auto focus stopped working, bought the EOS 7 from a pawn shop with a  lens. the auto  focus worked before i bought it and now a few weeks later doesn't work. tried switching both lens back and forth and still no results, very frustrated now i have two cameras and two lens but no auto focus on either. don't know if this helps or not. but thanxz in advance for any assistance or advice

PS both are set on AF nor manual

just thought of an alternate test, tried a long distance lens and the AF works on the, tried the 7 and screen message was no card, put card in from the 3 and message is card cannot be accessed, if i reformat the card i will loose all pic, will download pics to laptop and then try

More clarification is needed than saying EOS 3 & EOS 7. Those names were also used for film cameras too. So are you using the EOS R3 body & EOS 7D series. If so are these Canon brand lenses? Complete names of lenses and cameras are needed. To prevent confusion.

both are digital cameras, on the front to the right side of the lens (looking from the camera lens facing you) is EOS Rebel T3 and the other the same except T7 both lenses are canon zoom lens EF-S 18-55 mm, that is all the info except for serial numbers on base, thanxz

Which version of the lenses do you have. Canon has released 9 different versions of that lens. The complete name can be found when the lens cap is removed. I have an example pictures below to help identify your lens. Older versions of the lens used a cheaper AF motor called Micro Motor. Turning the focus ring with the lens set to AF can damage the lens. Along with the gear train and AF motor. The newer versions with “STM” in the name don’t suffer from these problems. This is because the focus ring is NOT directly connected to the lens’ focusing elements. Instead the focus ring is electronic and those lenses use focus-by-wire technology. Preventing any type of damage from happening when turning the focus ring with the lens set to AF.

on base of lens for both is:EFS 18-55mm IMAGE STABILIZER MACRO 0.25M/0.8FT

Maybe I damaged something by rotating the lens manuallly when in AF mode did not know that could happen, thankxz
