Camera is an EOS Rebel T3. When in live mode AF quick a rectangular box appears in the LCD screen. Is there any way to turn that box off? Shooting in full auto mode, AF and VC selected on 18-270 tamron lens.
When I press the "Q" button it goes to the side along with the AFquick selection but when I press the shutter button halfway it comes back. If I change to AFportrait it goes away but takes forever (it seems to take the picture.

That is showing you the focus point. If you switch the lens to manual focus, it should go away, but it won't focus on its own,

I set the lens to manual focus but the box is still there. I am trying to set it up for a 95 yr old photographer who swears the box was not there before I borrowed it. I have tried everything to get the box to go away but nothing works. It does go away when I press the magnification button (to 5x or 10x) but comes right back. I did not notice it when I borrowed the camera because I shoot almost exclusively with the viewfinder.
