EOS RP Auto Focus (AF) lockup

I am using a RP camera with RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM  lens. Occasionally the lens AF locks up, the EVF is completely blurred, and the AF button (front and back) is loses communication with the lens. Sometimes I can turn the RP off/on and the AF is restored, but not always. Other times I switch the lens to Manual Focus (MF) for a while until the AF starts working again. The only pattern I have observed is when the RP is idle and the camera is suspended from the neck strap, pointing down, then the AF stops working. The camera is about 2 years old and the lens is about 1 year old. This annoying behavior has just started to occur during my last two projects. Camera software is up-to-date. I can duplicate the problem with other lenses, one is EF w/converter and another one is RF lens. The problem happens with any battery that I use in the RP. I have run out of ideas regarding how to troubleshoot the problem any further. Any thoughts you may have would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

These issues are always challenging to track down.  Since the behavior can be reproduced with more than one native RF lens, please tell us about the following:

Are you using Canon batteries and are you able to reproduce the behavior with more than one of them?

What brand and spec memory card(s) are you using? Are they full size or micro SD with adapters? Have you tried more than one brand and can you reproduce the behavior using different cards?

I suggest you reset the camera's, main and custom settings to defaults and continue testing.

I changed my full-size memory SD cards. This did not make a difference. I installed the SanDisk Extreme PRO 64MB SD card with the Canon battery.

So, I reset all the RP's settings to default. I then took the camera out on 3 separate sessions for about an hour each on different days. No AF problems during the first two sessions. On the third session, I changed the image capture type from JPG to CRAW. No AF problems during the third session.

These results imply there was a main and/or custom setting(s) that caused the symptoms described above. I don't know what setting(s) that caused the problem since I didn't write down the original settings before I reset them to default.

• Read speeds of up to 95MB/s; write speeds of up to 90MB/s
• Video Speed : C10, U3, V30

Are they full size or micro SD with adapters? Full size

Have you tried more than one brand of SD card? No, but I will do so and report back.

Will reset camera settings back to default and report back soon.
