EOS R6 Mark II cannot use wired shutter release while tethered

I'm trying to shoot "holy grail" timelapses with the EOS R6 Mk II by connecting it to the qDSLRDashboard/LrTimelapse app via USB cable and the Benro Polaris motorized head via a shutter release cable. The Benro positions the camera and triggers shutter release while LrTimelapse downloads the jpegs as they are shot, analyses them, and controls exposure.

The problem is that the EOS R6 Mk II doesn't respond to the shutter release while connected via USB. This setup worked fine with the EOS R. Is there an R6 Mk II setting to enable this?

When cameras are connected to an active, external device with the USB port, the buttons and controls on the camera body are typically disabled. This is true of almost any brand, almost any camera.
