EOS R5 Mark II died after month of using

Hi,

My brand new R5 Mark II died during tethering, only top LCD still works

I was shooting tethered when I suddenly got a connection error. Right after that, the camera basically died. It won’t boot anymore. The only thing that comes on is the top LCD, which just shows Manual mode. The rear screen stays black, the EVF doesn’t turn on, and none of the buttons respond.

I’ve tried leaving the original battery out for a while, charging it to 100%, removing the lens, and trying again, but nothing has changed.

The camera is only a month old, so I’ll be sending it in under warranty, but before I do, I wanted to ask if anyone has experienced something similar or knows of anything else worth trying

In all products, catastrophic failures happen randomly and it's frustrating when that randomness says "Tag. You're it." to a person. I trust that Canon will solve this quickly.

I've never used mine tethered but have shot thousands of frames without issues.

Very unlikely tethering caused the issue. There is no significant amount of power transferring back and forth. Causation and correlation, not related

If it was going to die it is good it happened in one month. Most electronic gear will fail if they are going to in the very beginning of use. After that startup time period the vast majority will work for a very long time. Call Canon 1 (800) 652-2666 or setup a ticket online.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I know it wasn’t caused by tethering. I’ve been using it for years, it just happened while I was working in the studio. The camera has already been sent in for service. I’ve been using Canon systems for 10 years and this is the first time I’ve had something like this happen. I guess I must have had some really bad luck 🙂

I’ll let you know what failed once they’ve repaired it
