Try to remove any accessories attached to the camera such as memory cards, lenses, mount adapters, flash devices, etc. Only use a battery and a body cap to cover the lens mount.
Does the camera still malfunction when you turn it on?
BTW, if you are using any micro-SD memory cards that need the plastic adapter to fit inside the camera body, then stop using them. All of them.

Hi W, I have found out if i do not have sd card or micro sd card in camera it works but will not connect to pc. If i put either a microsd card OR sd card in to the camera it flashes AUTO and BUSY and the buttons dont work and it will still not connect to pc. It used to connect easily to pc so i could use it for video conferences / zoom etc

Your SD cards are highly suspect. Remove them. Only a battery and a body cap. Turn on the camera. Switch to the P shooting mode, if it allows. Go into the Menu system and find the setting that resets the camera back to its factory defaults.
can you navigate through the menus. Do not install a memory card, yet.
Do not re-use the suspect memory cards. They are pretty cheap. Try a new full size. SDHC memory card, 32 GB or smaller, if possible. Do not buy it from Amazon. Visit a Best Buy or a camera dealer.
If you are still getting the same error message. Turn off the camera. Remove the memory card and battery. Turn the power switch to ON without a battery in the camera. Fully press the Shutter button and hold it pressed for at least 10-15 seconds. Switch the camera OFF.
Re0install the battery. Does it work normallly? You may have to re-enter time and date.
Try your new memory card. Try to low=level format the new card using the camera menu.

Hi everybody, just to let you all know, in the end I sent the camera to Canon Service Centre and they have said that due to a Faulty USB socket on the camera they have to change the camera's pcb board, flash unit and socket ! I asked why the technicians cant micro solder a new socket on and was told ' we dont do that' !! So I now have to pay £110 / $140 for a usb socket that's broken !!!!!!! They told me this was a good deal !!!! Thank you for your comments
