EOS M10 500mm telephoto lens

I have mounted a Vivitar 500mm telephoto lens and I cannot get the camera to capture a picture. I have it in manual mode. I have AF turned off.

The camera thinks that there is no lens attached to it.  There is a menu setting that you have to enable to allow the shutter to release without a lens attached.
