Using a DSLR is a new experience for me. I would like to know why I need to press the shutter button twice when in CREATIVE mode. Please advise. Thanks.

It sounds like “Mirror Lockup” is enabled.
If you have purchased a used camera, then it is a good idea to go through all of the menus and reset the camera back to the factory defaults. The camera would need to be in one of the Creative Modes for you to see all the menu options.
If any menu option opens up to sub-menu, then it is likely that there is a Reset option within that sub=menu.

That worked. Any tutorials you've seen to help a beginner with the EOS 70D?
Thanks.
