Are you using flash? The EOS 6D cameras have a sync speed of 1/180 seconds. To use higher shutter speeds with flash, you need to enable high speed sync. Or, use an ND (neutral density) filter to keep your shutter speed at the sync speed when wanting to use wider apertures.
