I recently bought a lightly used EOS 4000d camera, and when I put an SD card, it still shows “No memory card” when I turn on the camera. I have tried resetting the camera, formatting the card in my computer, making sure the lock switch is in the correct position on the card, and trying multiple different cards. I am unable to format the card in camera because no card is detected. This is my first camera so I am not sure what else to try. Any advise is greatly appreciated before I try and find somewhere to take it to!

Are you using a Full Sized SD Card or an adapted Micro SD Card. Stick with Full Sized SD Cards adapted ones only cause problems. What capacity is it lower end cameras such as yours don't work well large capacity SD Cards. Stick with 32GB SD Cards and all of the problems go away. Larger SD Cards cause all sorts of problems like what you describe and cause your camera to lock up.

lmr27,
If you've tried several different cards and they all give you the same result, it's probably not the card's fault.
I'd say carefully inspect the inside of the card slo00t on your camera and see if there is an obstruction of some kind like dust or dirt, or see if there any bent pins.

After reading Demetrius's answer, maybe the card or cards you are using are the problem.

Are certain that the camera is working properly?

Have you tried any other SD cards?
Where did you buy the camera? Did it come with any kind of warranty?
What makes you think it has been only "lightly used"? It is a seven-year-old model.

I'd return it.
