Hello!
It's an in-camera crop guide to help you know where your image will be cut off if you crop it to the set ratio. It's helpful if you're going to print or upload to social media. You can learn more about it on page 146 of the manual HERE. 👈🏻
The best way to explain it is to imagine you want to capture a great image for Instagram, and you want it to be a square image. You know your camera doesn't take square images natively, so you enable the square "mask." It will show you where you can safely frame your image so the rest can be cropped out.
When 1:1 is set:

Go into the Menus and turn it off. Or, you can do a total reset if you did some changes by mistake and don't know how to turn it off. That will set it back to factory defaults.
