Canon T3i and SmallHD Focus

I just bought the SmallHD Focus for my Canon T3i and the hdmi output on the focus only shows in 480p. Any idea why or how I can have the camera output at least 720p to the SmallHD monitor?

The T3i is a DSLR, not a video camera.  The HDMI output is a reproduction of the LCD screen.
