Hi. I've been running the Canon EOS R5 almost daily since 2020 and all of a sudden it is defaulting to video mode at start up. I primarily use the photo mode and often turn my camera on and off in the middle of a shoot so having to repeatedly switch it back to photo mode is frustrating.
Once in photo mode, it's easily switching to video and back again to photo mode, but I'd like to be able to change it to always starting in photo mode when turning on.
I'm on the latest firmware and don't want to have to reset to factory default if I can help it.
Appreciate any help you can give. Thanks.

I would suggest saving the camera configuration to a memory card using the Save/Load settings option in the wrench menu. This means that you can recover your current camera setup.
Then I would reset the camera settings back to the factory defaults. Once reset, then see if the camera starts in photo or video mode repeatedly. If the problem has gone away it's an issue or conflict of your settings. You can of course load the old configuration back from the card and then see if the photo / video mode is still a problem.
