Canon EOS R5 Mark II crashing at high frame rates

I’m using a canon EOS R5 mark II and having crashing issues. The camera will be recording and simply freeze up and the screen will go black, the top screen by the mode switch is the only indication the camera is working and it will be the seconds of the video frozen. The solution is removing the battery and turning the camera back on. Doesn’t happen often but maybe 5% of the time. It hasn’t happened in a while but after I updated to 1.1.1 firmware it started happening again, it first happened when I got the camera and I narrowed it down to it being connect by usbc to a atamos shinobi II.

The setup I was using was the Canon R5 mark ii with a 24-70rf 2.8 or a 70-200rf 2.8. I used a atamos shinobi II through only HDMI and canons dummy battery to usbc then connected to a Smallrig V99 V mount battery. I connect the v mount through usbc. I shoot in 4kd 120fps with a high speed SanDisk extreme pro cf express type B. Not sure what to do as I’ve seen this problem happening with others online after updating to firmware 1.1.1.

Hey Joe,

It’s when I updated to 1.1.1 that I started having the crashes and problems.

Hey b_rad_kauai,

Yeah, that's a bummer!  It's best to talk to Canon and let them know that your issues started after updating the firmware to the latest update eosr52-v1.1.1  It could be as simple as redoing your settings or it may something specific.  Canon Support can trouble shoot your issues and come up with a fix.

Good luck and keep us updated on the results.

😎

Cheers,
Joe

You multiple pieces of gray.  My advice is to start disconnecting hardware, one by one and retesting, until the problem either goes away or stays with the camera.

It’s highly likely that Canon Support will offer the same advice.  They are not able to offer support for third party gear.
