Is there software available for my computer regarding picture enhancement or modification ?

Your camera would have come with software (you can also download it) for this. Canon Digital Photo Professional (DPP) is included and it does image adjustments. But you aren't limited to Canon software... there are numerous third party applications for this.

There is also a bit of a line between software that can provide "adjustments" (altering the look of an image, but not the content of the image) vs. images that can handle even hard-core edits (altering not just the look... but the content of the image as well.)

There are free versions of post editors.  Lots of them!  You got several with your camera.  Gimp and Darktable and Lightzone are probably the most advanced free versions.  They rival Photoshop and Lightroom which are the best there is currently.  PS and LR are not free but there is a lower cost version, Photoshop Elements 13.

I would check out Canon's free DPP first.
